To many, dancing remains a hobby. To others, it stands out as a very profitable and successful career. But to Kelvin Kelly Mapira, it remains till this very day his way of life ever since he pulled off his very first dance performance 8 years ago.

But who is Kelvin Kelly Mapira; better known as Kelvin Kelly?

“I am a presenter and currently the founder and managing director as well as teacher at my very own dance school right here in the warm heart of Africa” he began.

But to think of successfully running a dance school in Malawi, and how the society would take it, left us with a lot of questions of how he manages to do it? Is it the money? Or the passion? Here is what he had to tell us when we interviewed him at the Tent of His Love & Glory (Next to Robins Park Hall) last Sunday.

“Frankly, I love dancing. I feel that it is not only just a hobby for me but it has helped me overcome a lot of unfortunate occurrences over the years. I have learnt to utilize it when I want to channel my emotions, get along with those around me and when I just want to feel good about myself and everything that the Lord has blessed me with. And when I discovered how it has helped me to become the man I am today, I wanted to help others as well with this blessing so I started wedding choreographies and as time went by, the grace was more than sufficient to the extent that in October 2018, I started the “Kelvin Kelly International Dancing School” with the inspiration that I got from dancer; Papit Afro, who owns a dance school in the United States of America”.

“Frankly, it hasn’t been easy getting the society to accept the essence behind the dance school but so far it has been amazing having to work with both local and international students that showed interest in the work that I do. And I look forward to 2019 being a great year for me and my school” he said.

The dance school is located in Blantyre, along the Kabula Hill Road and is currently still open to receive students who are interested in what the school offers.

In addition to that, rumour has it that Kelvin Kelly is releasing a music video. So we had to find out from the man of the moment himself about it.

“Yes, the rumours are true. I am releasing the video to a song I personally worked on entitled ‘Glorious’. It was produced by Peter Banda and the video has been worked on by Kanchowa Studios. To add to all that, Lusu Manda himself has offered to also work on promoting the video once its out. So personally, I believe that it is a video that Malawi has to be on the lookout for because the song itself is a song that talks about a believer declaring what he or she wants his or her life to be. It also has an old funky Michael Jackson vibe attached to it, hence a very interesting package for those who love music. So, on the 6thof February, we will be releasing this video and I believe that it will get out to a larger audience than we are initially anticipating”.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a project that should excite you because this dancer right here has graced many stages with his outstanding dance moves and hearing that he has a full video awaiting our attention is something that deserves an unshaken lookout.
