Daily, we see budding musicians releasing their music and sharing it on social media or in our local burning centers as we move around in our townships but not many of them get to where they plan on getting to. This is why we take our time to appreciate those that are making it or have completely made it to the national scene as a way of inspiring our upcoming artists to do more to get to where the others are.
Today, we took some time to talk to the RFP MAM (Raised for a Purpose Music & Arts) Artist of the Year 2018; Lonje, and this is his story.
“My name is Lonjezo Andrew Daudi. I am the Information Security Administrator at TNM, Born on the 16thof February 1988 and definitely not single lol. I am married to the lovely Chinsisi Daudi. And I am the same Lonje from Lonje & Kho; the duo that came up with the gospel banger ‘Akadalipobe’, better known as ‘Wina Uyo’”.
Lonje has been on the national scene after the ‘Akadalipobe’ banger with Kho and has been working on projects after that album was released. He is currently working on another one which he managed to mention during the interview earlier today.
“I have been a singer since primary school and wrote my first song in Form 1 but recorded my very first song after writing my Form 4 examinations. After that, I returned to the studio to record more songs in my second year of college. From then on, it has been session after session until one day, I managed to come up with ‘Akadalipobe’ with Kho. With grace, the song became a hit and then we were inspired to do more and that is how my first album came about” he said.
“Over the years, I have worked with GD as well as Mystery the Beat King Kong of the Joint and I personally feel that I would not be able to have such fine work if not for their dedication to make my music what it is today. I am currently working on my second album and I don’t take it for granted that my songs such as Akadalipobe (Wina Uyo), Umangodziwilatu, Wandizungulira, Amazing Love, I Win, Ananena Ndani & Performance have become hits and have widened my outreach as a minister of the gospel”.
Like any other artist, it hasn’t been easy for Lonje to make it to the national scene and to cross the borders to an international audience.
“It requires heavy prayer, dedication, discipline, hardwork, order and the right people around you to help you make it to a large audience. I personally am still struggling to find an international audience but with the perseverance and determination that I have in me, I believe that I will make it by the time 2019 comes to an end”.
What should people expect from him? You may ask
“Well, people should check out my previous projects on the Lusu Manda Enterprises website that’s for sure. And should be on the lookout for the projects that I am yet to release such as the video to “Wandizungulira” that has been shot by Ron Cz and is to be released on the 16thof February 2019. I am not going to let anyone down and I am definitely not ready to disappoint those that have believed in my work so far. It is an honour to be an award winner and I am going to use this to my advantage to win more souls with my music”.
So there you have it folks, Lonje just might be the next big Afro Gospel Artist that Malawi needs. So make sure you check out the “Performance” audio and video on the homepage. And leave a comment on what you think about his music.
Major SO to @Lonje for such an amazing interview.
We surely enjoyed it and look forward to more updates from you.
